Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint (Mille Miglia eligible)

Car Bio

This Alfa Romeo is one of the very first Giulietta Sprint ever built (date of production 21 February 1955), and it was bought by a wealthy milanese gentleman driver – Agostino Di Stefano – at the Minetti dealership. This car is more precisely considered a “pre-series”, since important changes were applied to the model after the first few chassis had rolled off the production  line.

At the time of the purchase, Agostino Di Stefano was 41 years old and was taking part to several competitions a year for pure passion’s sake, albeyt not belonging to any specific racing team. In 1955, he decided to take part to the famous Mille Miglia with his new Italian sports car, with the goal of making the most of its nimble handling along the 1’624 Kms course. He took the start with race number 233, and crossed the finish line in Brescia ranking 130th overall and 13th in class, after a 15h 32’46” total driving time.

Di Stefano also registered in the 1951, 1954, 1956 and 1957 editions of the race – with other cars, and never really taking part to the race -, after which the red Alfa with chassis AR1493-00094 spent several years in neglect.

It was found in a barn in 2016, sold and completely restored, and it even got a new taste of competition at the 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2023 Mille Miglia.

Today, the “Centro Documentazione Alfa Romeo” historical register also certifies that the actual engine – AR131500186 – is original and matching numbers. The car is inscribed in the “Automotive Masterpieces” list and it is published on the Mille Miglia’s “Chassis Volume II”. On top of this, the Mille Miglia eligibility makes this car
a true collector’s dream.
